Atty.

Leni Robredo

Atty. Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo served as the vice president of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022. During her time in office, she transformed the role of the vice president from a largely ceremonial position into an advocacy-driven office. She initiated a poverty alleviation program—Angat Buhay—that relied on public-private partnerships to implement vital interventions across sectors such as education, healthcare, nutrition and food security, rural development, women’s empowerment, and housing and resettlement.

Sustainable Development Goals:

1┃No Poverty

Eradicating extreme poverty for all people everywhere by 2030 is a pivotal goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It can be said that this is where the SDGs revolve. A rise in poverty has been observed through the decades, greatly affecting other linked dimensions.

Attorney Leni Robredo has always shown the initiative to alleviate the masses above poverty through various programs mostly implemented through Angat Buhay.

Goal 2 is about creating a world free of hunger by 2030. Food security has been an issue, especially since 2015.

To bridge this gap, feeding programs may be implemented that would be beneficial for underserved communities. Investments must be made in the local primary sector (agriculture), as well as in rural and urban areas so that no one will be left behind.

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being aims to provide access to healthcare to all kinds of people. It aims to conclude epidemics of communicable diseases by 2030.

Spreading awareness is one way to help people to make well-informed choices. Medical Assistance Programs can be put into effect, ensuring universal access to health care.

Education for all has been a long-time issue and has worsened since COVID-19 happened. This is serious, especially since education and awareness are keys to achieving the SDGs.

Governments can provide financial support to students, such as scholarship programs, and improve educational facilities and infrastructures.

Inequality is ever so prevalent nowadays, resulting into exclusion of groups of people based on their race, beliefs, class, and etc. SDG 10 promotes to show dignity and respect to all lives.

Marginalized sectors must be represented and be given a chance to take on a pivotal role about issues for the better.

Climate Change is related to global warming wherein the planet’s temperature rises. All people are affected, even threatening nature and wildlife. Massive natural disasters have been recorded the past decade because of this phenomenon, disrupting economies and affecting millions.

Emission of Carbon Dioxide (Co2)  encouraged to be lessened. The gas contributes to the Greenhouse Effect (GHG), which traps heat in the atmosphere, causing global warming. To know more ways to help, you may visit the website Act Now | United Nations.
